MELAKA - A total of 34 units under the Krubong People’s Housing Project (PPR) here have been withdrawn from their tenants after they were caught subletting the houses to others, said senior Exco member in charge of housing Datuk Rais Yasin.

He said the Melaka Housing Board took action against these tenants based on its monitoring after the Krubong PPR was accorded the Rent To Own (RTO) status in August 2022.

"The PPR units are a facility provided by the government and tenants should return them if they do not want to stay there. Many other people need these houses.

"That is why we decided to take back these units and identify others who are eligible to be given these houses,” he told reporters after visiting the Krubong PPR recently.

He said the government was subsidising a lot for these units, which are sold at RM35,000 each under the RTO scheme where tenants pay RM275 a month inclusive of maintenance fees over a 20-year period.

"Those who sublet to others after getting these units show that they do not need these houses anymore,” he said. - BERNAMA
