SHAH ALAM - Former Parti Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan criticises Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that the prosecution against several political leaders for corruption is not related to revenge.

He said if the government has no motive, why would it target only one party.

"Can we trust what Anwar said?

"Why is there no investigation launched against those in the Umno-led government after former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin resigned? It is as if Anwar is trying to make the people forget that before he was the PM, Umno was the party leading the government?

"If there is no political revenge then why is Anwar silent about charges against Zahid Hamidi (Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi)? He immediately shut his mouth as if Zahid is the most angelic person who is loved,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Recently, during the 2023 Labour Day celebration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Anwar said that efforts to drag some political leaders to court had nothing to do with revenge.

Although he did not address any specific party, the statement was believed to be referring to criticisms from the opposition towards the government, following the prosecution of their leader in court on corruption-related charges.

Wan Saiful also said Anwar's action was only an act because he only dared to fight the opposition.
