SHAH ALAM - There are several government agencies that are still ignorant and have not taken any efforts to address the problems, even though the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raised them with them, says Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The commission is responsible for following up on at least 500 reports involving related agencies, of which most were submitted 12 years ago.

Azam said based on statistics received, the government agency that received the most misconduct complaints was the police force, with 125 cases, followed by the Road Transport Department (RTD).

He said the high number of reports received on the police was not surprising as the force had the most enforcement personnel.

He explained that other than the enforcement agencies, there were also cases involving court institutions, the prime minister’s office (PMO), religious authorities, hospitals, health departments, and universities.

"Our investigations will focus on the corruption issue first; if we find other misconduct, it becomes our duty to report it to the department head.

"The head will then report it back to us again to confirm it.

"Unfortunately, many of them (department heads) ignored the reports submitted by the commission," he said, as quoted by the New Straits Times (NST) on Tuesday.

Azam added that it was the responsibility of each head of department to investigate any misconduct issues.

"They must take action as it is a mandatory action," he said.
