SHAH ALAM - Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has apologised for a data breach mistake involving over 11,000 university applicants.

UiTM through their official Twitter account, confirmed the link to the list of 11,891 identification card (IC) numbers and applicants’ e-mails were no longer active after an update was carried out.

This was following Twitter user @imraimy's post, who claimed that UiTM had published a list of nearly 12,000 IC numbers and applicants’ e-mails as unsafe links.

The user said their IC and e-mail address were part of the breach.

Responding to the tweet, UiTM said it had taken note of the claim and requested the complainant contact the university for further action.

Technology portal lowyat.net reported in 2019 that a total of 1,164,540 student records who registered between 2000 and 2018 for courses at UiTM were leaked online.

The leaked data was claimed to involve detailed records of UiTM students from their main campus in Shah Alam and 13 state campuses across the country.
