TNB shares tips on saving electricity

SHAH ALAM - Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) today shared tips with the public on how to save electricity throughout the current hot spell and dry weather.

In statement TNB said electricity usage was bound to increase due to the current weather and festive celebrations

"To monitor electricity consumption directly, consumers are also encouraged to take advantage of the smart meter service, if its installed it can be monitored through the myTNB portal and the myTNB application," the statement read

TNB explained that the best method to save electricity is by ensuring air conditioning, fans and lights in empty rooms are switched off and to ensure that electricity switches were closed for computers after it was being used.

TNB also reminded the public to turn fans in bedrooms to ensure good air circulation

"Room temperatures will reach a comfortable level quickly after the air conditioning isturned on for a few hours, air conditioners should also be placed on a timer to save electricity.

"Avoid placing the refrigerator in warm areas such as areas in direct contact with sunlight or near the cooking area," the statement said.

TNB added refrigerators should be filled to two thirds of its capacity to ensure cold air circulation.

Users were encouraged to choose electrical appliances with four or five star energy efficiency labels by the Energy Commission (ST) to save electricity consumption at home.

Users were urged to regularly maintain their air conditioning to allow it to operate at an optimal level in addition to cleaning the filter to ensure smoother air flow.
