PUTRAJAYA – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is baffled by the statement issued by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who intends to take legal action against him regarding the alleged gambling funds to finance the party's expenses during the last general election.

"Me... me? Why am I being sued?" he asked in a press conference after officiating the National Training Week 2023 Summit, here, today.

He said this when asked to comment on the news that Muhyiddin had considered to sue him and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the statement which linked PN to allegedly receiving funds from gambling companies for the 15th General Election (GE15).

Yesterday, Muhyiddin said he would discuss with his lawyers regarding follow-up actions to be taken against the statements made by Anwar and Zahid.

It follows the explanation made by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, in a written answer in Dewan Rakyat, stating that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations could not prove the allegations that PN received funds from gaming companies to campaign in GE15.

Azalina said MACC had conducted a detailed investigation into the allegation but the agency found that the information was very general and no party could confirm it.

Therefore, she said no investigation papers were opened.

Previously, Anwar in a press conference hinted that part of the PN's election funds came from gambling companies. - AWANI
