Man stabs ex-fiancé eight times unhappy with break up

KOTA KINABALU - Jealous and dissatisfied with the their broken engagement, a man goes on a rampage and stabs his ex-fiancé eight times at her workplace.

The body of the 22-year old victim was found lying on the floor with stab wounds at a shopping centre on Jalan Haji Saman yesterday at noon where she worked as a shop assistant.

Kota Kinabalu district deputy chief Superintendent Kalsom Idris said the police have arrested the 33-year old man, who was still on the scene.

She said police received the distress call from the man himself who claimed to have stabbed his ex-fiancé.

"A team from the Kota Kinabalu district Criminal Investigation Division was rushed to the scene after the police was alerted.

"We also recovered a knife, believed to be the weapon used by the suspect, in the murder.

“The suspect was detained by the mall’s security guards before being handed over to the police,” she said.

Kalsom said investigations found that the suspect was jealous and unsatisfied with the victims and they had just ended their relationship two days prior.

“The suspect tried to persuade the victim to mend their relationship but she refused due to personal reasons.

“The suspect got angry and stabbed her eight times until she died. That was the motive,” she said.

Kalsom said paramedics who were on the scene of the incident tried to save the victim by providing respiratory assistance (CPR) but the victim could not be saved and was confirmed dead at 1pm before being sent to the forensic unit of the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI) for an autopsy.

"The suspect has since been remanded to assist the investigation and the knife he used was also seized,” he said.

Kalsom said that the case investigated under 302 of the Penal Code was considered to have been completed after the suspect was successfully arrested.
