SHAH ALAM - The Election Commission (EC) is ready for the upcoming state elections, once Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Penang dissolves their respective State Legislative Assemblies
Its secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said tasks such as deciding the date of the Issue of the Writ, nomination of candidates, campaigning period, early voting and voting day will be determined after the state legislative assembly is dissolved.
"The authority to dissolve it is still under the discretion of the Sultan or the head of the state and the commission will only begin its work after the state assemblies dissolves and the dates will be decided then," he said to Sinar yesterday.
He said this after Karangkraf Group visited the EC Headquarters, led by Karangkraf Group executive director Akmal Eirfan Mohamed Fauzi and accompanied by Ultimate Print Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Azizi Fickry.
Ikmalrudin added that the election must be held within 60 days after the state assembly is dissolved in accordance to the respective state constitutions
"Keep it in mind that we will follow the dissolution date of each state. If it is dissolved at the same time then it would be better," he said.
The five-year term of the state legislative assembly of Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan and Penang will end this June until early August in which a state election is required to be held.
He added that the expense for the state elections held in the six states would reach up to RM420 million.
