Dr M under probe for 'Malay Proclamation' campaign, says lawyer

SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was questioned by the police today relating to the 'Malay Proclamation' campaign, which is suspected of being an activity damaging to Malaysian democracy.

The Malay Mail reported that his lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said, Dr Mahathir is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code for committing an activity that is considered detrimental parliamentary democracy.

"Tun has said that he is ready to be charged at court and will answer questions in court," Rafique said in a video on his Facebook page 'InspirasiChannel'.

Rafique said that Dr Mahathir was questioned by investigators from the federal police headquarters between 11am to 12pm.

"Is talking about Malays or the Malay Proclamation illegal?," Rafique asked.

The Malay People's Proclamation consists of a 12-point document which states that Malays have never dominated the economy of this country, it also addresses the key problems they face and contains points on bridging the group’s political differences,

It was reported PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris signed on to Dr Mahathir’s proclamation.

It was also reported that to note, the police have yet to announce such an investigation.
