SHAH ALAM - Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president, Datuk Larry Sng thanked Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin for her contribution to the party, including helping to promote it.

This comes after the Kuala Lumpur High Court today rejected the application of the former Ampang MP to initiate judicial review proceedings against the Registrar of Societies (RoS), that he is the legitimate PBM president.

"In politics, sometimes you win and lose. It doesn't mean that losing makes you a bad person.

"With her going together with her supporters from the leadership ranks including people like former MPs and State Assemblymen (Dr Xavier Jayakumar, Datuk Seri Dr Edmund Santara, Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, Paul Yong, Haniza Talha, Dr Daroyah Alwi, A Sivasubramaniam and Leong Cheok Keng), I believe PBM is running on a good footing with a clean slate," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Judge Amarjeet Singh said the court cannot investigate the affairs of political parties under Section 18C of the Societies Act 1966 and is bound by the precedent set by the Court of Appeal.

Sng added that the decision means that PBM now only has one seat in Parliament.

"In 2004, PKR also only had one seat in Parliament and today they are the government."

"I believe PBM will continue to make an impact in the Malaysian political landscape and I welcome today's court decision," he added.

On March 24, Zuraida filed a judgment review application through Mr Ashmeer Ashrof naming RoS as the sole respondent.

Zuraida, the former minister sought several declarations, including that the decision of the RoS to retain Sng as the party president was illegal and unreasonable.

She also applied for a mandamus order to compel the RoS to recognise and register her as PBM President with effect from 7 October last year.

Last December, Zuraida was sacked by PBM along with 10 other party leaders after they failed to respond to a show-cause letter issued following their suspension from the party in October.
