KUALA LUMPUR: There is not much time left to prepare for the state polls, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan warned party members in his winding-up speech at the party's general assembly here today.

"The upcoming six state elections, I think, will be held between the end of July and August.

"Even if we were to work 24 hours a day to prepare for the state, we still do not have much time left.

"As such, we have asked the states that will not be involved in the polls to help out these six states.

Mohamed went on to urge delegates to defend the party's dignity by emerging victorious in the state polls.

"Let's all continue to put our efforts and determination into making sure we get the victory we can be proud of," he said.

He reminded delegates that the party had been punished in the last two general elections and that support for the party had been dwindling.

"We have no choice but to rise again for the future of this party and for the future generation.

"We owe them, and we must solve this while we are still holding the posts. This is our responsibility," he added.

Mohamad said, together with the party's leadership, he would update the president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, on Umno's preparation to face the state polls.

"What's important right now is for us to arrange our machinery well so that people can see our efforts.

"Also, I'm urging everyone to please refrain from making statements that may mislead the people,"he added.

The upcoming state polls will involve Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan.
