KUCHING - The Sarawak Government is steadfast in their commitment to a net zero carbon future and has taken the lead in many clean energy initiatives to form the foundation for a sustainable and vibrant economy.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said at the same time, they also intend to position Sarawak as a clean energy hub for the region.

"I wholeheartedly believe that a low carbon economy is not a zero-sum game, but a ‘win-win’ endeavour,” he said when delivering his keynote address at the International Energy Week 2023, here today.

He said clean energy will power Sarawak’s green economy, create new jobs in sectors and industries that are environmentally sustainable.

"The Sarawak Government has laid down the foundation of green economy to spur the growth and development of the region,” he said.

Abang Johari said the State Government has laid down the foundation of their green economy to spur the growth and development of the region, aspiring to achieve over 15 percent of income from foreign markets, including returns from power exports.

"By exporting renewable energy to neighboring countries, we can leverage our natural resources and position ourselves as a vanguard in the energy transition across the region,” he added. - BERNAMA
