Fatal car accident involving oil tanker leaves two siblings dead in Kuantan

KUANTAN - Two siblings died after the car they were traveling in was involved in an accident with an oil tanker on the Kuantan-Segamat road near Felda Lepar Hilir here on Tuesday midnight.
In the 11pm incident, the car driver, Siti Nur Alia Saffiyah Zulkifli, 18, and her sister, Siti Mazurah Zulkifli, 30, both from Felda Lepar Hilir 1 here, were confirmed dead at the scene.
Kuantan district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said that the tanker driver did not sustain any injuries.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the tanker carrying the load of petroleum was traveling from the Muadzam Shah direction towards a petrol station in Gambang.
"When it arrived at the scene, the tanker is believed to have lost control and veered into the opposite lane before colliding with the Proton Wira car carrying the two siblings who worked as salesperson and waitress.
"The bodies were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here for post-mortem," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"The tanker driver has been detained for further investigation and the results of urine screening tests indicate that the man was not under the influence of drugs," he added.
