SHAH ALAM - The appointment of Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay as Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has been hailed as a crucial step in restoring the reputation of the police force.

Independent criminologist Shahul Hamid Abd Rahim noted that Ayob was the most suitable candidate to assume the responsibilities of the second-highest position within the police force.

Shahul emphasised that Ayob, renowned for his strong stance against crime and abuse of power, possessed an impeccable track record.

"Ayob's reputation is not only untainted but also strikes fear in the hearts of officers and subordinates who may contemplate collusion with criminals," he said on Tuesday.

He cited the example of 18 lower-ranking officers and a public servant from the Johor Police Contingent who were dismissed in 2021 due to their involvement in various offenses while Ayob served as the Johor police chief.

"This outcome was a result of his unwavering commitment to integrity, trust, strictness, fairness, and prudence in all aspects.

"He is willing to accept responsibility for any shortcomings on his part, even if it means facing reprimand, criticism, or threats," Shahul explained.

He expressed that Ayob's appointment to the second-highest position was eagerly anticipated by Malaysians, who yearned for positive developments within the police force.
