KUCHING - Astana Negeri Sarawak today lodged a police report on the spread of fake news regarding the wellbeing of the Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The report was lodged by Press Secretary to the Governor of Sarawak Peter Sibon at the Gita Police Station here.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Peter said he would leave it to the authorities to investigate the matter so that all the unnecessary fake news will be put to rest.

"It is hoped that the police will take necessary action on the fake news that has been moving around, which includes the ones that said Tun (Abdul Taib) was not well, Tun was sick. Some even said Tun already passed away.

"We cannot identify (the origin of the fake news), we leave it to the police to find out and investigate how and where the origin and source of the fake news,” he said.

Yesterday, the Governor's private secretary Junih Salleh Ahmad in a statement said Abdul Taib is well and in good stead, hence dismissing rumours about his health condition, which had been spread in the social media.

Junih said that all the viral and unverified news regarding the wellbeing of Abdul Taib were completely fake and untrue. - BERNAMA
