ALOR GAJAH - A man in Alor Gajah has expressed his willingness to purchase a giant bull worth RM30,000 for a sacrificial ritual with his wife at their home in Bukit Balai Durian Tunggal this Saturday.

Muhammad Jantan, a 28-year-old self-employed individual, said that since June last year, he has been diligently saving around RM2,500 monthly to afford the three-year-old bull called "King."

According to Muhammad, he learned about the bull from a friend before the animal arrived in Melaka on Wednesday morning.

The bull was accompanied by food and 500kg of wood dust to provide comfort.

He added that the bull's owner initially refused to sell the animal, which had been crowned the "King of Sado" at the 2022 and 2023 Lembu Sado Utara.

However, the owner agreed to the sale when informed that the bull would be used for sacrificial ceremony.

"The owner deeply loves this bull and takes excellent care of it, even bathing it twice a day.

"Initially, he didn't want to sell it for business purposes, but he later agreed when I explained that I was seeking a bull for sacrifice," Muhammad told Sinar on Thursday.

However, he noted that the cost of bulls has significantly increased over the years, with kampung bulls now priced at around RM5,000 compared to the previous RM3,000.

Muhammad said that he has continued to perform the sacrifice annually, except in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also stressed that his selection of a bulls this time is driven by his desire to distribute the meat to a larger number of people, particularly those from the Asnaf group and the B40 group, as his house is located in a rural area.

"We have made preparations involving more people to assist in slaughtering the bull, and we are collaborating with the mosque to ensure the meat distribution to over 200 residents," he added.
