SHAH ALAM - There are about 70 Islamic schools in Australia, which are privately owned and well funded by the government.

University of South Australia Centre for Islamic Thought and Education (CITE) director Professor Mohamad Abdalla said Muslim Australians were able to have proper Islamic education due to the funds the government provided for the establishment of Islamic schools.

He added that there were a lot of support from the Australian government to Muslims in the country.

"In Australia, we have Islamic schools. We have hundreds of mosques that are opened and operating freely without any pressure from the government.

“In these mosques, Muslims perform the five daily prayers, Quran memorisation and learn Arabic,” he said during Sinar Daily’s Fireside Chat programme.

He said in fact, non-Muslims also visited the mosques in the country.
