SHAH ALAM - The police will monitor statements issued by any party, including those uploaded through social media.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said monitoring would also involve any statements or speeches made by politicians through virtual campaigns.

“The police are strict in carrying out this monitoring, not only involving the 3R issue (race, religion and royalty) but any sensitive issue, either through the programme or virtually,” he said.

He said a technical team consisting of investigative officers would be assigned to record every speech for the purpose of monitoring any activity that may disrupt harmony and unity.

“Monitoring will be carried out from the day of nomination of candidates on July 29 until the day of voting on August 12.

“We remind you that no one is spared in this 3R issue. Any party found trying to play this issue will not be spared from legal action.

“The police want to ensure that public peace and order is always guaranteed and this 3R issue should not be played by any party,” he added.

According to him, the public, especially social media users, must be smart in expressing opinions.

“Be a smart user who always upholds democratic principles by throwing ideas without touching on sensitive issues,” he cautioned.

On Wednesday, the government issued a final warning to any party that plays up the sentiments of the 3R issue to the point of breaking the law and challenging the constitution.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the action exceeded the interests of any party and involved matters of national security.
