Amanah has no problem contesting fewer seats than Umno

JOHOR BAHRU - Amanah finds no problem with a smaller seat allocation compared to Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state polls on Aug 12.

Its deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said that, essentially, an understanding regarding the seat distribution had been reached by the top leaders of the Unity Government.

“There is no issue because Umno had contested for more seats previously.

"For example, in Negeri Sembilan, they won many while Amanah won three seats there.

"An understanding had been reached, so there is no big problem for Amanah to contest in the state election this time,” he said.

Salahuddin said that Amanah will be contesting in 30 seats across the six states, with the most number of seats being contested in Kelantan (7), Terengganu (3-4), Kedah (7-8), Selangor (9) and Negeri Sembilan (3).

He added that 800 members of Johor Amanah will be mobilised to help with the party’s campaign in the state elections.

“We will mobilise these machineries to help focus on the state polls campaign in Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu.

"The other three states will be assisted by Amanah machineries from other states that are not involved in the state election,” he said.

The Election Commission has set the nomination date for the state elections on July 29, while early voting will be held on August 8.

The polls will be held simultaneously on Aug 12.
