KUALA TERENGGANU – Pas Terengganu expects to announce its candidates for the state election and Kuala Terengganu parliament by-election on July 27.

Terengganu Pas liaison secretary Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang would announce the list of candidates at the Tok Guru Hall in Rusila, Marang.

"Pas will declare all the names of party candidates and the number of seats that will be contested in this poll at the ceremony.

"Insya-Allah, the candidates who will contest to represent the party in the Kuala Terengganu Parliamentary by-election, which will be held simultaneously with the state poll, will also be announced in the same ceremony," he said.

The Kuala Terengganu by-election would be held after the Terengganu Election Court annulled the victory of Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament Datuk Ahmad Amzad, who represented Pas in the 15th General Election (GE15).

It is understood that Pas was expected to compete in 27 state assembly seats, while the remaining five seats would be represented by candidates from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

The five seats expected to be contested by Bersatu are those in Kijal, Hulu Besut, Telemong, Permaisuri, and Langkap state legislative assemblies.

In the same development, Wan Sukairi said, strategies had been arranged for the party to maintain victory in the existing 22 seats and seize another 10 seats won by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th General Election (GE14).
