POLITICALLY FRANK: Pas 'indirectly' admitted to corruption in Kuala Terengganu, claims Ahmad Said
SHAH ALAM - Pas' decision not to appeal against the result of the election petition for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat indirectly suggests their association with corruption, claims Terengganu Umno chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
During Sinar Daily's Politically Frank interview, he further said not submitting an appeal is their strategy to hold state elections and by- elections simultaneously.
On June 8, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that the decision not to appeal was to ensure the welfare of the people was not neglected while awaiting the resolution of the case.
On June 27, the Terengganu election court annulled the victory of Ahmad Amzad Hashim, who represented Pas in GE15, after the petitioner, Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong, successfully proved that corruption had taken place with the intent of influencing voters.
Ahmad Amzad won the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat in GE15 with a majority of 40,907 votes, defeating three other challengers, including Zubir.
When asked on seat allocation for Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in Terengganu, Ahmad said the decisions have been finalised.
"We have completed the division of seats between BN and PH and we will contest all the seats.
The party leadership will soon make an announcement on the seats," he added.
