SEBERANG PERAI - David Marshall, a former DAP member reveals that the party does not support its members who are vocal in voicing out concerns for the sake of the party.

Marshall who is now contesting as an independent candidate in the Perai State Legislative Assembly seat said he was one of the members who would criticise the party for the betterment of the country.

However, he said the party did not accept his criticisms.

"Actually, I love DAP. I was the party's boy for 15 years.

"However, I was disappointed with a few things, firstly with the senatorship when the party submitted my name, but the DAP state commitee rejected my nomination as a senator, but it brought up a backdoor senator's name.

"I was still with the party then," he said.

He also said his name was initially proposed as a candidate for the state polls, but in the end, he was not allowed to contest.

He said he could see that the party would just drop members who were being vocal.

"I was also very vocal in the party. I used the internal channel to voice out (concerns) and I make criticisms for the sake of the people. But they would cut them (vocal member) out.

"So, that is why it’s better for me to stand alone as an independent candidate," he said in an exclusive interview with Sinar Daily at the nomination centre at Dewan Al-Azim, Seberang Perai Vocational College, today.

He also stressed that he will keep supporting caretaker Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as they were vocal leaders in the country.

Marshall said he will be fighting with the big guns in the upcoming Penang polls in the Perai state seat on Aug 12.

He will be contesting against three other candidates, namely Datuk Seri S.Sundarajoo from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Sivasuntaram Rajalinggam from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Vikneswary Harikrishnan from the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).
