SEREMBAN - A senior citizen has decided to run as an independent candidate for the Sikamat seat in the state elections following his interest to emulate the footsteps of caretaker Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

"I saw him (Aminuddin) contesting for the fourth time, and I want to try it once. I like how he carries himself," said Bujang Abu, 72.

"I also wanted to go against him for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat, but no one supported me," he said when met at the nomination centre at Taman Coral Height Community Centre on Saturday.

The retiree, who is using a pair of spectacles as a logo, said he did not care about the number of votes he would get.

"I don't care how many votes I get... I've taken the Lower Education Certificate (SRP) eight times.

"When I passed the eighth time, I was satisfied," he said, adding that he decided to contest again as he has good people skills and has a lot of time after retiring.

The Sikamat seat will have four candidates running for it, including Bujang. He will be up against Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun from the PH, Ahmad Raihan Muhamad Hilal from PN, and Mohammed Hafiz Baharudin, who runs independently.

This is the third time the father of five is contesting. The first time was in the 13th general elections for the Seremban parliamentary seat, where he only garnered 83 votes.

He then tried his luck again in GE14 by contesting for the Sikamat state seat but lost after garnering only 15 votes.
