SHAH ALAM - DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang chooses to reserve his comments amidst DAP's internal strife and criticism towards his son, Lim Guan Eng's candidacy for the Penang State election.

"I have retired from front-line politics," he said when asked duirng a programme at Kota Kemuning Lakeside Park this morning.

Guan Eng, who is DAP National Chairman, has been facing criticism for being fielded as a candidate while five Penang Excos were dropped from the candidates' list despite being longtime members of the Penang State Legislative Assembly.

His candidacy has allegedly sparked an internal conflict which led to notable resignations within the party.

Former DAP Batu Kawan Chief David Marshel had quit the pary and contested as an independent candidate in Perai as a sign of protest.

On nomination day, he revealed that the party does not support its members who were vocal in voicing out concerns for the sake of the party.

Incumbent Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy, who was also dropped from the candidacy list, is also contesting independently to defend his seat.

On July 26, state party chairman and caretaker Penang Chief Minister urged party members to back party candidates and focus on the campaign work to ensure Unity Government parties continue to rule the state.

Party secretary-general Anthony Loke has since defended Guan Eng's nomination stating that he had led the state for 10 years and made a lot changes during his time as Chief Minister with many voters still appreciate his contributions.

Guan Eng, who has served as the Air Putih assemblyman for three terms, will be seeking to defend his seat on Aug 12.
