Jawi investigates LGBT gathering, Ahmadi teachings

SHAH ALAM - The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) has conducted investigations on the group carrying lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and Ahmadi teachings banners in front of the Sogo Complex, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the case was investigated under Act 559 of the Syariah Crimes Offences Act (Federal Territories) 1997.

He said as the Federal Territories religious authority Jawi would not compromise on such acts that go against Islamic teachings as well as the laws enforced.

"Manners of promoting and normalising a lifestyle that is against Islamic teachings and human nature such as LGBT are not acceptable.

"Efforts to stop such beliefs and activities must be done seriously and in a coordinated manner.

"The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) would want to thank and congratulate the police for taking immediate action in investigating the case," he said in a statement.

He advised Muslims to remain true to their Islamic teachings and to distance themselves from being involved in any teachings and understandings that had gone against Islamic morality.

The Kuala Lumpur police Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zin on Monday had said all suspects were arrested at the same location where the gathering was held.

All suspects consisted of local men aged between 18 to 56 years old were arrested in the gathering.

Investigations found the individual involved who held a banner with LGBT elements and some words directed towards Ahmadi teachings.
