SHAH ALAM - A fire broke out at the departure area of the third floor of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said an officer and 12 personnel in two fire engines were sent to the scene after a distress call came in at about 8.30am.

"When firemen arrived on scene, there was a thick cloud of smoke in the area.

"We discovered that some rubbish had caught fire in the trash chute on the third floor of the main terminal building," he said in a statement.

"It caused thick smoke to engulf the departure area of the airport," he said.

"The fire was under control by 9.10 am and it was fully put out by 10.31 am," he added.

The fire and rescue department reported that there was no damage to the building's structure and there were also no casualties
