Scammers now use police logo on traffic summons, compounds emails
KUALA LUMPUR - The tactics of scam syndicates are becoming increasingly cunning as scammers attempt to deceive the public through emails claiming outstanding traffic summonses.
Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation and Department Deputy Director Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar said that these tactics were widely distributed via emails to individuals, using the official logo of the Royal Malaysia Police.
"The page displays a notification claiming that you have an overdue traffic summons that needs to be settled immediately.
"The email also threatens that legal action will be taken if the 'summons' is not settled," he told Sinar on Friday.
He added that the email further requests users to make an online payment or transfer funds through the provided link.
He advised the public to always be cautious of such fraudulent tactics.
"We emphasises that there are no payment transactions via email as stated," he clarified.
