GOMBAK - The police are hot on the heels of a man who stole a motorcyclist's necklace in front of a guardhouse in Taman Raintree, Batu Caves, near here on Thursday.

Gombak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said a preliminary investigation found that the incident happened at 12.08pm.

According to Zainal, a 71-year-old local victim riding a motorcycle was stopped by an unknown individual who pretended to ask him a question.

"During the conversation, the male suspect pulled the victim's gold necklace before fleeing.

"We are still trying to trace the suspect. The case is being probed under Section 393 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement on Friday.

Those who have information about the incident are asked to come forward by contacting any police station or the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Nor Adiba Mohamad Nordin, at 03-61262222 or 012-8819215.

The incident was widely shared on Facebook through a one-minute video that went viral on social media.

A person dressed in dark clothing rode a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle and was observed approaching the victim in front of an apartment.
