KUALA SELANGOR - Two-cornered fights in Selangor may give Perikatan Nasional (PN) an advantage to defeat Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) in the upcoming state elections, said former Selangor Umno chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

However, the result would depend on the percentage of Malay voters' turnout and support from non-Malay voters.

If that happens, the former Tanjong Karang Member of Parliament believes that at least 33 of the 56 seats in Selangor, where more than 60 per cent of the Malay voters are, can be won by the PN.

"Because in Selangor, we have 33 seats, of which Malay voters comprise more than 60 per cent.

"This is our projection. For example, if a polling district centre has non-Malay voters and they have 40 per cent, it's a definite loss.

"Because 60% of the Malay voters are split into three (in a three-cornered fight). That's why it can't be a three-cornered fight. But if it's a two-cornered fight, then PN can win," he said in Sungai Gulang-Gulang last night.

Noh said that although he was sacked from Umno, the theory he has been promoting since becoming Selangor Umno chairman persisted through PN to defeat PH.

He added that the Selangor PN manifesto, "Selangor Baharu Kita Bangkit", is comprehensive as it includes the welfare of the people outside and in semi-urban areas, which he has fought for.

"In Selangor, there must be a manifesto for urban, semi-urban, and rural areas. I am from a rural community (Tanjong Karang). Thank you for offering to abolish parking.

"From the beginning, I did not agree that there should be a fee for parking in rural areas and outside the city in Tanjong Karang. Why charge a parking fee? This is outside the city," he said.

In the Aug 12 state polls, there will be 26 two-cornered fights between the PH-BN and PN, 25 three-cornered fights, and five four-cornered fights.

The Permatang seat will witness a two-cornered fight between Noh's daughter Nurul Syazwani and PKR Tanjong Karang division chief Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri. - AWANI
