KUALA TERENGGANU - Police have received a report regarding a fake post on social media claiming there were plans for riots by a coalition of political parties.

Terengganu State Election Commission Assistant Commissioner Noor Halim Nordin stated that the report was filed at the Chukai Police Station in Kemaman yesterday.

"Based on the report, the complainant came across a message with the acronym UMDAP attempting to create unrest similar to what happened on May 13.

"The message was seen while the complainant was browsing Facebook," he said in a statement here today.

He mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code to curb the dissemination of news capable of causing fear or panic to the public, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for spreading false news.

Meanwhile, he mentioned that a total of 55 ceramah (speech) activities were approved on Saturday, involving 36 applications from Perikatan Nasional (PN), 18 from Barisan Nasional (BN), and one from Pakatan Harapan (PH).

"The police are committed to safeguarding national security and public order in accordance with the Police Act and other existing legal provisions.

"Hence, all parties must cooperate by adhering to all regulations throughout the election period," he said."
