Don't allow 'hothead' to win in Kedah, Mahfuz cautious on Sanusi

“If we choose to retain PN in governing Kedah with the Menteri Besar (MB) still being Sanusi Md Nor, then we would smear ‘arang’ (charcoals) all over the Sultan’s face.
“We cannot allow the state to be governed by a hothead. A hothead who had gotten overboard in needling on the Selangor MB and ended up mocking the Sultan of Selangor too.
He was referring to Sanusi, the caretaker Kedah menteri besar’s defamation suit against the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Mahfuz added that if Sanusi was allowed to be made Kedah MB for another term, padi farmers in the state would likely suffer, remarking that the latter’s administration would hamper the Federal Government’s plan to upgrade the state’s padi irrigation infrastructures and system.
He claimed that Kedah’s granaries were being irrigated with a severely outdated infrastructures which has never been upgraded since the formation of the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada)
“Unlike the ones in Selangor, which is more modern. That is why they can produce more rice per hectare compared to Kedah, but nonetheless, we still manage to contribute 45 per cent of the country’s rice production because our granaries are bigger.
“Sanusi wanted RM7 billion to build an airport but the Prime Minister (PM) wants to spend RM3 billion to upgrade the irrigation systems which can increase our rice production which ultimately can ease the rakyat’s hunger
“But when the PM wants to prioritise on this instead for the airport, the MB got angry and mocked him. This is why Kedahans need to make sure that the state is ruled by the same parties that govern the Putrjaya,” said Mahfuz.
On Aug 12, a total of 1,585,085 voters cast their ballots in an electoral contest involving 83 candidates vying for Kedah’s 36 state seats.
