JOHOR BAHRU - Even though Umno is focused on upholding the aspirations of the Malays and Islam, the party has never denied the welfare and rights of the non-Malays throughout the 60-odd years it governed the country.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the non-Malays should look back at the history of how Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) defended their rights in society, culture and economy.

With the diminishing support from the non-Malays towards Umno and BN and the lukewarm treatment from Perikatan Nasional (PN), especially Pas, Nur Jazlan said the non-Malay voters should think further ahead when casting their votes during this Saturday’s state elections.

“I am not trying to rake up the past, but that’s the fact. The past 60 years, who took care of their welfare and interests. The answer is Umno, BN.

“Then, the non-Malays should look at what Pas has been doing for them. The party just like to pick a fight with them. Look at how they disrespect their non-Malay members in PN and kicked out Gerakan president in a ceramah in Penang,” he said in a statement, today.

Nur Jazlan, who is Umno Pulai chief said the non-Malays should realise that their numbers were declining compared to the Malay voters, a situation that will have an impact in the future should they vote wrongly.

“I want to remind the non-Malays not to be too obsessed with their interests and hate Umno.

“If they are still on the fence in supporting Umno in the unity government, support for Umno will continue to erode while for Pas it will rise,” he added.

He said in a situation where urbanised and progressive Malay voters started to reject Pas, the non-Malays should be wise in making their choices to have a secured future under a reliable government.

“My advice, let Umno be the only alternative party that will continue to defend the non-Malays, not Pas, Bersatu, Pejuang and others.

“Hence, the non-Malays have to give their trusts back to Umno and BN during this state elections,” he said.
