ISKANDAR PUTERI - The Johor government will establish the Johor Sustainable Centre by the end of this year in order to make the state a driver of the regional sustainability agenda.

Johor Economic, Tourism and Cultural Office in Singapore (Jetco) chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad said the initiative was in line with the implementation of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) launched by the Ministry of Economy recently.

He said the establishment of the centre is expected to open up more opportunities for collaboration with developed countries that are experts in green technology and renewable energy.

"This centre can facilitate greater cooperation and collaboration, not only in Singapore but also in other developed nations,” he said when met by reporters at the Malaysian Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit 2023-2024 here yesterday.

Also present were Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib and State Investment, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Lee Ting Han.

Hasni, who is also the former Johor menteri besar, said the establishment of the centre would also help attract foreign investment.

"The state government is very proactive in attracting investment, and I have also participated in an investment mission to China and Europe.

"With the existence of this Johor Sustainable Centre, we will be on par with much more developed nations. It will be a challenge for us to attract investment if we don’t adopt sustainable and green technology,” he said. - BERNAMA
