SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) Bukit Lanjan candidate, Muniraa Abu Bakar is breaking stereotypes by choosing to contest for Gerakan in the upcoming Selangor state election.

Muniraa's decision to contest under the Gerakan flag, a multiracial party known for fielding a majority of Chinese candidates, had garnered attention as she was often perceived as a candidate who hails from Bersatu due to her race.

When asked if her job would've been easier if she had been a part of Bersatu, Muniraa expressed that she was content to have chosen Gerakan.

"I don't think things would've been easier if I'm with Bersatu, I feel good to be with Gerakan," she said.

The Bukit Lanjan candidate added that since she was with the party, she received tremendous support from the Pas community.

She explained that due to the lack of funds for the state elections, many candidates had to spend their own money to mobilise their campaigns.

However, Muniraa said she was thankful to the Pas community in her area for offering a generous helping hand.

"They willingly volunteer their energy and never ask even a cent from me.

"In fact, they spend their money for me out of their own volition," she added.

She explained that Bersatu has also helped her in her campaign but their support is not as massive due to the lack of Bersatu machinery in Damansara.
