Police ensure security at EC, political party offices ahead of state polls

KUALA LUMPUR - The police will coordinate security measures at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in Putrajaya and several locations in Kuala Lumpur (KL) ahead of Saturday's polling day.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zin said that although KL is not directly involved in the state elections, the city will attract the attention of political parties for meetings and gatherings, aside from being a focal point for state party supporters.

"While Kuala Lumpur is not directly involved in the state elections, it is expected to be a gathering point for political parties to hold meetings and for state party supporters to assemble or march.

"The EC will make the decisions for the state polls at its headquarters in Putrajaya. Consequently, security measures will be implemented to prevent any disturbances," he said at a press conference at the KL Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) on Friday.

Mohd Shuhaily said his department constantly monitors and conducts security assessments to detect potential threats.

"Surveillance will be ongoing throughout the elections, and the announcement of voting results will be handled to prevent any unauthorised gatherings or processions by certain parties.

"Roadblocks will be set up in identified areas to prevent any planned processions or security-related threats in Kuala Lumpur," he explained.

He added that the IPK's "Team Cantas" is on standby and ready to be deployed to thwart any plans that may cause disturbances.

"All participating parties are advised to ensure harmony and avoid celebrating victories in public spaces. Instead, such activities should take place on closed premises or party premises.

"There will be no compromise on any detected violations of the law, and decisive action will be taken against any parties that defy these measures," he said.
