SIK - Caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's older brother Shabudin Md Nor has revealed that he declined job offers from Saudi Arabia and Qatar just so that he could vote in today’s Kedah polls.

Shabudin, 57, arrived at the voting center at Sekolah Kebangsaan Beris Jaya at around 8.30am this morning and finished casting his vote 15 minutes later.

When approached, the second of 13 siblings mentioned that his 12 other siblings and their parents would also be voting at the same location.

"I was supposed to depart for Saudi Arabia and Qatar last Wednesday, but due to my commitment, I needed to fulfill my responsibility to vote today.

“InshaAllah, after this, I will fly to another country. I'm not worried about jobs because there are plenty of job offers now due to the increase in global oil prices," he said.

On July 10, a bungalow in Kampung Batu 8, here, allegedly owned by Sanusi, became a topic of discussion due to his involvement in rare earth element (REE) mining activities.

Sanusi later denied ownership of the bungalow that was circulated on social media.

Instead, he clarified that the residence belonged to his brother, who works as a professional deep-sea diver.

Shabudin mentioned that he didn't feel pressured by the situation as he's accustomed to a profession that demands commitment and high patience levels.

"My job is already stressful, so I'm used to this situation. I don't mind what's happening (the bungalow issue)," he said.

Meanwhile, Sanusi's father, Md Nor Taib, 82, also completed his vote at 9.15am.

Bound by wheelchair, he was accompanied by Shabudin's younger brother Sobri, 54.

"Alhamdulillah, he has finished voting. Since the country has elections, my father has never missed voting," he said.

The contest for the Jeneri state seat involved a one-on-one contest between the incumbent from Perikatan Nasional (PN), Sanusi, and the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Datuk Muhamad Khizri Abu Kassim.

Sanusi, who is also Kedah PN Elections Director, won the Jeneri seat in the 14th General Election after defeating his opponents, Mahadzir Abdul Hamid from the previous term and Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan, with a majority of 2,455 votes.

The Jeneri state seat has 35,079 registered voters, with over 90 per cent being Malay.
