SHAH ALAM - The significant success of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in garnering Malay voters support during the elections in six states signifies that the coalition is currently the main political platform for the Malay community.

PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin said PN had won 60 per cent or 146 out of the total 245 contested seats.

"The success of PN in retaining Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu with a substantial victory demonstrates the strong support of Malay voters for PN.

"At the same time, PN also made major inroads in Selangor, winning 22 seats compared to the previous five seats held by PN," he announced during the PN state election results in the party's war room at the Concorde Hotel here early today.

Commenting further, Muhyiddin, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president, revealed that all 22 seats won by PN in Selangor were Malay majority seats, proving the significant support of Malay voters in the state.

"The success in winning these 22 seats also signifies that PN has denied the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) government's two-thirds majority in Selangor, which was previously considered their stronghold.

"I believe that if the voter turnout was higher, PN would have succeeded in taking over Selangor," he said.

Muhyiddin added that in Penang, as expected, a wave of Malay voters support brought significant success to PN, winning 11 out of 15 Malay majority seats.

"This is a strong blow to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as all State Legislative Assembly seats in the Permatang Pauh Parliament were won by PN," he said.

The Pagoh MP claimed that with PN's significant victory, Umno had become irrelevant, only winning 19 out of 108 contested seats.

He said this meant that Umno lost 82 per cent of the total number of seats.

"PN also managed to win mixed seats like Kulim and small Malay majority seats like Derga, exhibiting that PN also received support from non-Malay voters.

"This proves the massive rejection of Malay and non-Malay communities towards the fragile political coalition and false unity led by Anwar and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Hence, it is indeed true that this state election is a referendum of the people's rejection of the PH and BN coalition government," he asserted.

Therefore, Muhyiddin said Anwar and Zahid, who led the coalition, must take moral responsibility and resign as Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister immediately.
