SIK - The quick action by the public prevented a motorcycle theft at a mini market here, resulting in the man being successfully arrested by the police on Saturday.

Sik District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Abdull Razak Osman said the motorcycle belonging to a mini market worker was parked outside the premises in the 4.05pm incident.

While the owner of the motorcycle was at work, he was informed by his friend that someone had taken it.

"The victim immediately went out to check and found an unknown man pushing the motorcycle and wearing his helmet.

"The victim, assisted by the public, managed to restrain the man before handing him over to the police at 4.12pm," he said.

Abdull Razak said the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sik District Police Headquarters re-apprehended the suspect with the public's help.

"Based on preliminary investigations, the suspect, a Myanmar national, confessed to stealing the motorcycle to take it back to Penang.

"There were witnesses who saw the incident, and their statements were taken by investigating officers to facilitate the investigation," he said.

Abdull Razak said the suspect, who was found without any identification documents, has been remanded for further investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.

Abdull Razak advised the public to report any suspicious activities to prevent criminal behaviour for the safety of all parties.

"However, the public is reminded not to take actions that violate the law when apprehending suspected criminals but instead to hand them over to the police for further action," he said.
