GOMBAK - Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Megat Zulkarnain Omardin is considering filing an election petition to challenge the state election results following his narrow defeat by 58 votes while contesting the Gombak Setia State Assembly seat.

The Selangor Umno chairman said that his appointed legal team is currently undertaking the process towards this.

"I have received various requests to file a petition regarding the announced results.

"My legal team is examining and gathering evidence to submit an election petition to the court for due consideration.

"If granted permission (to win) by Allah SWT, we will leave the decision to the highest level (the court)," he said in a brief video shared on TikTok today.

On Saturday, Perikatan Nasional's Muhammad Hilman Idham has successfully retained his seat after securing 30,299 votes in Gombak Setia.

Muhammad Hilman defeated Megat, who obtained 30,241 votes, while the Independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali received 1,076 votes.

Meanwhile, Megat expressed his gratitude to all the voters who voted for him.

He considered these votes to be entrusted to him and a sign of the trust placed in him.

"I did my best to persuade the voters to give me a chance to serve the people of Gombak Setia, but we accept the decision that has been made.

"Once again, I take this opportunity to thank the BN machinery, Pakatan Harapan (PH), as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that supported me," he said.

He also mentioned that he will continue to provide service since Gombak Setia is the place of his birth, upbringing, and residence up until now.
