Prestigious surgical college celebrates its 2nd diploma ceremony in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR - The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), proudly celebrated the achievements of 94 diplomates from the region as they join its ranks during the momentous Diploma Ceremony held today at the Park Royal Collection Kuala Lumpur.

Though the ceremony is traditionally held in Edinburgh, this year, the ceremony was held for the second time in Kuala Lumpur.

The significance of this year’s Diploma Ceremony was greater as RCSEd also commemorated the 5th anniversary of its International Office, located on the campus of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

RCSEd President Professor Rowan Parks said that the 5th anniversary of their external office marks a significant global outreach milestone for the college

"We stand alongside esteemed diplomates in commemorating this achievement, as we continue to promote the highest surgical standards worldwide.

"Through our combined wealth of expertise, we've fostered a close-knit community of over 1,000 Malaysian surgeons within RCSEd's esteemed fold

"This endeavor has cultivated a culture of surgical excellence that transcends borders and holds the potential to enhance healthcare accessibility, shaping a brighter medical landscape," he said.

As one of the oldest and most prestigious surgical institutions worldwide, based in Scotland, RCSEd boasts a membership of over 30,000 professionals globally, with more than 1,000 esteemed members contributing to surgical excellence in Malaysia.

The diploma recipients attending today were from Malaysia, India, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Diplomates who are celebrated today will become members and fellows in both surgical and dental specialisms.

The Diploma Ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur reflects the institution's unwavering commitment to advancing the surgical profession and fostering a global network of talented surgeons and dentists.
