KANGAR - The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Perlis bureau chief Ahmad Muliady Ab Majid received the Anugerah Pendukung Seni (APS) under the media category at the 2023 Anugerah Seni Budaya (ASBN) Perlis, here, tonight.

He brought home a certificate, trophy and RM1,000 cash, presented by Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

APS recognises journalists who produce numerous news reports on arts and culture in the state.

"I am excited to have received this award and eager to produce more news about the artistic and cultural endeavours in Perlis,” he said after the ceremony.

Also present were state Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage and Women, Family and Communities, Welfare and Disaster Relief Committees chairman Wan Badariah Wan Saad, Cultural Arts Enhancement Division of the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) director Suhaimi Abdul Rahim and state JKKN director Norazlin Nordin.

Among the special reports that he has produced are "Wau Daun Palas Tradisi Yang Hilang”, "Awang Batil Warisan Yang Semakin Dilupakan” and a report about a female kite maker.

Earlier, Mohd Shukri said in his speech that the awards have become a platform for the creative industry players in the state to express their love and passion for music, dance, theatre and traditional games.

He said it was a recognition for the artists who strive to enliven the arts and culture in the state.

He said the Perlis government is focusing on the tourism industry, saying that "the hosting of events like ASBN is an effort to create more opportunities for cultural artists and tourism players in the state to showcase cultural products and identities at a higher level.”

Meanwhile, the Perlis association for traditional games, Persatuan Permainan Tradisional Negeri Perlis received the APS for the non-governmental organisation category, which was accepted by its secretary, Siti Aisyah Abu Semam.

The chairman of Persatuan Pelukis Negeri Perlis Yaakob Abd Aziz received the main award. - BERNAMA
