SHAH ALAM - The recent state polls results are a shared responsibility that must be embraced and reflected upon by all parties in Umno.

The Umno Ulama Council said that the responsibility was not exclusive to certain members only.

Therefore, the council had called upon every member and leader to rise up and turn the past defeat into victory in the future.

"The Prophet PBUH and his companions immediately rose after a defeat in the Uhud war against the musyrikin (non-believers) due to their (companions) failure to obey the Prophet's order as their leader. They eventually achieved great victory in the Ahzab war.

"Togetherness at all levels of members and leadership is the secret of organisational victory as reminded by Allah in surah al-Anfal verse 46," he said in a statement, today.

Previously it was reported the Umno grassroots had urged the party's leadership to bear the responsibility over the party's poor performance in the state elections in Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan.

Umno as the only party representing BN in the polls only managed to win 19 out of a total of 108 state seats contested.

Meanwhile, the council stressed that the election was a field to measure the strength of the party from time to time and when it ended, party members needed to rise up and put together a better new strategy.

The council pointed out that Umno members must unite to carry on with its fight relentlessly for the sake of religion, nation and country.

"The nurturing process of grassroots members must be done more smoothly to continue building loyalty to the party's fight as outlined by the Umno Constitution that is to fight for Islam, Malays, Bumiputeras, Sabahans and Orang Asli as well as unity for the sake of national prosperity and stability.

"Patience in defeat and gratitude in victory is the key to victory in any fight," it added.
