JEMPOL- The percentage of Malay voters in the recent state election in the Jeram Padang State Legislative Assembly seems to have slightly declined compared to the 14th General Election (GE14).

Without elaborating on the votes, Jeram Padang assemblyman Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir said it may be because they were still confused and lack understanding on the unity government that has been in place for the past seven months.

"Alhamdulillah Barisan Nasional (BN) is still accepted here even though previously there were allegations that Umno would not win due to this seat being an MIC stronghold and it turns out it was completely wrong.

"Support from the Indian community also showed a positive increase, including the Chinese and Orang Asli, although the Malay votes decreased slightly after we obtained a difference of 14 votes with the opponent in one district polling centre in the Felda village area," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian, today.

In the recent state polls, BN represented by Mohd Zaidy managed to get 5,462 votes thus defeating Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Datuk Seri S.Surash who was also the Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chief who obtained 4,769 votes.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zaidy did not rule out that BN's victory had something to do with the cooperation of Pakatan Harapan (PH) other than BN's component parties who gave full support during the campaigns.

"MIC and MCA helped a lot especially when I had to receive hospital treatment after being involved in an accident during the campaign period," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding his health, Mohd Zaidy said he was recovering from the injury, but the fracture on his leg will take about two to three months to recover.

"I still carry out the duty given by the people of Jeram Padang, especially in explaining the agreement in the unity government so that the message and agenda to be delivered are parallel between the state and central governments," he said.

He said that his driver who was also involved in the accident was also in the recovery process.

"His (driver) left hand was broken and he is also suffering an injury to his throat, but he has been discharged from the hospital and is carrying out his daily routine as usual," he said.
