X90 catching fire not caused by hybrid battery, says Proton after viral clip

SHAH ALAM - Proton has issued a clarification that the explosion caused in Proton X90 is not from 48V mild hybrid battery.

This comes after a three minute 11 seconds clip posted by Facebook user Jacky Chin have been circulating in social media showing that Proton X90 was on fire.

The vehicle was covered with thick smoke resulting from the fire.

The video also featured a mechanic from the Michelin company attempting to curb the fire on the car's bonnet using a fire extinguisher.

In a response to the video, Proton issued a statement saying that its team were conducting an investigation over the incident.

"We are fully aware of the incident and the vehicle is currently under our possesion.

"Our team is conducting a diligent investigation and will work closely with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident," the statement said.

Proton further clarified that the explosion did not come from the Proton X90's mild hybrid (48v) battery.

"We would also like to clarify there was no explosion caused by the Proton X90's mild hybrid (48v) battery.

"At Proton, the quality and safety of our products are our top priority and we would like to reassure users of all Proton models their vehicles are developed to meet the highest standards with each unit undergoing stringent quality and safety inspections prior to being delivered to our valued customers," the statement said.
