SHAH ALAM - Umno does not need to hold a special general meeting (EGM) to hold party elections again because it had been done last year from the Vice-President level to the branch level.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi said through the election, the party appointed a Vice-President, and most Division Heads are among new people.

"Even after Umno lost power in 2018, the party election was done to the fullest extent.

"Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi defeated Khairy Jamaluddin or KJ and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

"The EGM is not needed simply to decide the party election since the election will still take place.

"Last year the party itself decided there would be no number one and two contests," he wrote on his Facebook today.

He added that it would be better for Umno to carry out a detailed 'post mortem' at all levels.

Earlier, Tengku Razaleigh suggested that the election should be held again to revive the party following its poor performance in the state election on Aug 12.
