MUAR - Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's allegation that the party cut ties with DAP because DAP rejected hudud is a lie.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said Hadi is not telling the truth about why Pas no longer cooperates with DAP because the party wanted to be with Umno after the general election back in 2013.

Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu claimed that Pas decided to cooperate with DAP because it wanted to create a unity government with Umno and the matter was agreed during Pas Muktamar discussions in 2015.

"Through a long discussion, Pas suddenly announced that its party had severed ties with DAP, and there was no hudud issues.

"This is because the hudud matter had been agreed upon in the talks before that (with DAP and the PKR).

"This is because the hudud matter had already been agreed upon in the discussion before which took place on September 29, 2011 at the Pas Office in Jalan Raja Laut.

"Those present on behalf of Pas were me, Hadi, and Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

"On the DAP side, the representatives who came are Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Karpal Singh and Anthony Loke, while on the PKR side Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution and several others," he said when speaking in a Special Ceramah at Taman Sri Kaseh here yesterday.

He said, through the discussion all parties reached an agreement on several matters such as fighting the Internal Security Act (ISA), being a good government, fighting corruption and upholding the Constitution.

He said that there were only two things that were not agreed upon in the discussion and one of them was the hudud issue and all parties after that agreed to continue political cooperation including Pas.

The Kota Raja MP said Pas not only agreed with the decision regarding the hudud issue but before that, in 2008, the party was willing to forget the struggle of the Islamic State and replace it with the concept of a Welfare State.

Mohamad said that Pas's agreement to drop the struggle for the Islamic State took place in an effort to reunite Pas, DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakat (PKR) ahead of the 2008 general election.

"DAP asked not to mention as Islamic State and Pas agreed to replace it with the Welfare State, Pas is willing to drop the term Islamic State and replace it with the Welfare Government.

"Did the Pas leader tell us about this? Why is he hiding the fact, he is lying," he said.

Mat Sabu said that hudud had been Pas' struggle since the beginning but when they gained power and became part of the government, the issue was no longer a priority for their struggle.

He said they can bring motions and fight for the hudud issue in Parliament, even the religion minister when they were part of the government was from Pas but all that did not come true.

However, when they became the opposition again, he said, the hudud issue reappeared and became Pas's political capital by claiming that they cut ties with DAP because of the matter.
