Thailand's new cabinet sworn in
BANGKOK - Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and his 33 cabinet ministers were sworn in on Tuesday, nearly four months after the general election.
Srettha led the ministers in taking the oath of allegiance before King Maha Vajiralongkorn at a traditional ceremony at the Dusit Palace in Bangkok.
Srettha who is also the finance minister is expected to hold a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
The government will present its policy statement at a joint session of parliament next Monday (Sept 11).
In a televised address after the sworn-in ceremony, Srettha said his administration will focus on addressing the people's needs.
"This government is a people’s government. We are the representatives of the people.
"The government is committed to addressing the people’s problems. We will work tirelessly every day to put the needs of the people first,” he said.
Srettha said he will visit Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Nong Khai to discuss and listen to the problems of the people on Friday.
He said the government will create a legitimate and effective administration that upholds the rule of law, promotes public participation, and ensures equality for all.
"We can create a legitimate, effective, and responsive government that will allow Thailand to transition into a stable, wealthy, and sustainable country in the future,” he said. - BERNAMA
