Muda threatens to withdraw support for the Unity Government

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) party has threatened to further withdraw support from the Unity Government if the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) does not provide a detailed explanation regarding the court's decision on corruption Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi corruption cases.

Its President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman stated that this stance aligns with the party's decision made during a meeting yesterday, describing it as a "red line" that has been crossed.

Syed who is also the Muar Member of Parliament emphasised that Muda would launch a campaign and protests if certain demands were not met before the party's exit from the government.

"Muda will not hesitate to evaluate its position within the Unity Government.

"That's why Muda is taking steps to organise protest campaigns on the streets and social media.

"We demand three things to be done, and if not fulfilled, we will take action (by leaving the government)," he said during a press conference today.

Meanwhile, Muda's Vice President Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz called on all government Members of Parliament to issue statements regarding the issue due to the Unity Government being formed on the belief in combating corruption.

Amira also questioned whether there would be new prosecutions by the AGC in the future.

"If so, what is the timeline? This is something that the AGC needs to explain to the people because this case is a high-profile case.

"Is it the responsibility of the AGC to manage perceptions and increase public confidence when there is no explanation regarding Zahid's case?

"Answers need to be provided immediately because the public has already formed their own perceptions.

"Third, will this decision set a precedent for any politician to be brought to court?

"Will there be subsequent cases at the defense stage where the AGC will also apply for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal?" she questioned.
