Muda withdraws from PH balancing bloc in Johor

JOHOR BAHRU - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) is no longer part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) balancing bloc in the state after deciding to withdraw from the political coalition on Sunday.

Johor opposition chief, Andrew Chen Kah Eng said this move was justified based on Muda's recent decision, which differed from PH on several issues.

"Because Muda has chosen and decided to leave the unity government and has an unfriendly stance toward the unity government, automatically, the Muda state assembly members in Johor are no longer part of the PH balancing bloc.

"Muda has chosen to leave the unity government. We are very disappointed with Muda's recent habit of making statements contrary to the unity government," he said in a statement today.

On Sunday, Muda announced that it would act as the third force in opposition, thereby withdrawing support for the unity government.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman explained that the notification regarding this matter had been submitted to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, through a letter sent on Sunday.

In this state, only Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman Amira Aisyah Abd Aziz, who is the Muda representative from the party at the State Legislative Assembly.

Kah Eng further commented that Muda's actions contradicted the spirit of solidarity in the past, including fielding their candidates against PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Johor state elections last year.
