COPENHAGEN - Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise and her fiancé, American Durek Verrett, have found a date for their wedding.

It will take place on Aug 31, 2024 in Geiranger, Norway, Märtha Louise wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, reported German news agency (dpa).

The town north of Bergen is known for its spectacular fjord and dramatic mountains, she said. "Geiranger is the perfect place to welcome our love," reads the Instagram post, which shows the princess in a white dress and Verrett in a pink jacket.

Verrett describes himself on his website as a sixth-generation shaman.

Märtha Louise had said in November last year that she would no longer perform official duties for the Norwegian royal family until further notice. The decision came after the princess had been criticised several times for mixing commercial interests and her official title.

Verrett has also been criticised in the Norwegian media for making odd claims, including that a medallion had cured him of the coronavirus.

The sister of Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon and Verrett announced their engagement in June 2022. Märtha Louise has three daughters from her first marriage.

"We are delighted to welcome Durek Verrett into the family," King Harald V said in a message from the Norwegian royal family. - BERNAMA-dpa
